After 9/11, the terrain where I felt my art voice had purpose was the topography of despair – the landscape of anguish as it stretched across the human frame. My response to a “world gone mad” was to create a series of sly little paintings – alternately seductive in their technique – and brutal in their topic. This series of 29 portraits speaks with fierce truthfulness of rage, tragedy, loss, and death – but ultimately what I uncovered is HOPE.
